How to Fix Stripe Account Verification from Pakistan
By Shaheer Khan, founder of Markify Ecommerce
Stripe does not support businesses registered in Pakistan, so Pakistani founders use Stripe through a company registered in a supported country, usually a US LLC or a UK Ltd. That works well, but it also means Stripe looks closely at the account. Most of the problems we are asked to fix fall into three groups: verification that never completes, payouts paused for more information, and accounts closed for being "unsupported" or "high risk".
This guide explains what Stripe checks, why accounts owned from Pakistan get flagged, and how to fix each situation. It is about getting a legitimate business verified, not about hiding where you are. Stripe allows owners who live outside the company's country; what it does not allow is false information.
What Stripe checks when you open an account
Stripe has legal "know your customer" duties in every country where it operates. For a US or UK company it will check:
- The business: legal name, registration number (EIN for a US LLC, company number for a UK Ltd), registered address and business type.
- The people: every owner with 25% or more, and at least one person with significant control, verified with a passport or national ID and, where asked, proof of address.
- The bank account: in the company's name, in the company's country or a supported currency account.
- What you sell and how: a working website with products, prices, a refund policy, a privacy policy, terms and contact details, and a business description that matches it.
- Risk signals: whether the product is on Stripe's prohibited or restricted list, refund and dispute levels, and whether the information is consistent.
Why accounts owned from Pakistan get flagged
In almost every case we review, the cause is one of these:
- Mismatched details. The company name on the website is slightly different from the registered name, the address on Stripe is not the one on the EIN letter, or the bank account name does not match.
- An empty or half-built website. No refund policy, a contact page without an email, placeholder products, or a "coming soon" page.
- A business description that does not match the site. For example, "ecommerce" on Stripe while the website sells digital marketing services.
- A restricted product. Supplements, CBD, some financial services, adult products, replicas and certain digital goods need approval or are not allowed.
- Hiding the owner's real location. Entering a US home address that is not yours, or using tools to disguise where you log in from. When Stripe later sees a passport and IP address from Pakistan, the mismatch looks like fraud. Be honest: list your real residential address in Pakistan as the owner's address and the company's address as the business address.
- A sudden spike. Large first payments or many refunds and disputes soon after launch.
Step-by-step: fixing a stuck verification
1. Read the exact request. In the Stripe dashboard, open the notice on the home page or under Settings, Business. Stripe usually says precisely what is missing, such as "verify identity of representative" or "provide company registration document".
2. Make every detail match. Line up these documents side by side and make the spellings identical:
- Articles of Organization or Certificate of Incorporation
- EIN confirmation letter (CP 575 or 147C) for a US LLC
- Bank statement or account confirmation
- The legal name in the footer of your website
- The details on Stripe
3. Fix the website before you resubmit. It should have real products and prices, a clear refund and returns policy, shipping information, privacy policy, terms, and a contact page with an email address and the business address. Stripe reviewers do open the site.
4. Upload clear documents. Full-colour scans of the whole page, not cropped photos. Passports should show the full photo page.
5. Answer questions directly. If Stripe asks what you sell, who your customers are or how you fulfil orders, reply in plain language that matches the website.
If your payouts are paused
Paused payouts usually mean Stripe wants more information, often after the first larger payments. Typical requests include proof of fulfilment (tracking numbers), supplier invoices, or an explanation of a spike in volume. Send what is asked promptly. Until then, avoid large refunds or moving lots of volume to a second account, which can make things worse.
If your account was closed
Stripe usually gives a short reason, such as "unsupported business" or "elevated risk". You can ask for a review once by replying to the closure email with a short, factual explanation and any documents that answer the stated reason. If the reason is a prohibited product, a review will not help.
Do not open a new account with different details to get around a closure. Stripe links accounts by owner, bank and device, and a second account opened this way is usually closed quickly and can make future approvals harder. Stripe will normally pay out the remaining balance after any reserve period.
Can Stripe pay out to a bank in Pakistan?
No. Stripe pays out to a bank account in the company's country or a supported currency account in the company's name. Pakistani founders typically receive payouts into a US or UK business account (for example with Wise Business or Payoneer, where eligible) and then transfer funds to Pakistan through normal banking channels.
A checklist before you apply
- Company registered and EIN or company number issued
- Business bank account open in the company's name
- Website complete, with policies and contact details
- Same legal name and address everywhere
- Owner's real residential address in Pakistan ready, with proof of address if asked
- Product checked against Stripe's restricted list
Frequently asked questions
Can a Pakistani citizen own a Stripe account?
Yes, through a company in a Stripe-supported country such as the US or UK, provided the information you give is accurate and the business is allowed.
How long does Stripe verification take?
When documents match, often within a day or two. Requests for extra information can add days or weeks.
Should I use a UK Ltd or a US LLC for Stripe?
Use the company that matches where your customers are. A US LLC suits US sales; a UK Ltd suits UK and EU sales. Our UK Ltd and Stripe guide covers the UK route.
Can Markify open the Stripe account for me?
We prepare the company, documents and application and guide you through it, but the account must be in your company's name and you verify your own identity. See our US LLC formation and UK Ltd formation packages.
