Ecommerce SEO in Lahore: What Good SEO for an Online Store Involves
By Shaheer Khan, founder of Markify Ecommerce
Paid ads on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok bring sales quickly, but costs keep rising and an ad account can be restricted overnight. Search traffic takes longer to build, but it keeps coming without paying for each click. That is why more Pakistani online stores are investing in SEO.
"SEO" can mean very different things depending on who sells it. This guide explains what good ecommerce SEO involves, so you can do the basics yourself or judge an SEO provider properly.
How ecommerce SEO differs from SEO for other businesses
A service business might need a few strong pages and a Google Business Profile. An online store has hundreds or thousands of product and category pages, filters that can create duplicate URLs, products that go out of stock, and fierce competition from marketplaces like Daraz and Amazon. The work is more technical and more about structure.
1. Technical foundations
- Indexing: make sure Google can find and index your important pages. Search Console's Pages report shows which pages are indexed and why others are not.
- Duplicate pages: filter and sort options, tag pages and product variants can create many near-identical URLs. Canonical tags and sensible settings stop them competing with your main pages.
- Sitemaps: submit an up-to-date XML sitemap in Search Console.
- Speed and mobile: most Pakistani shoppers browse on phones, often on slower connections. Fast, light pages matter. See our Shopify speed guide.
- Structured data: Product markup with price, availability and reviews helps Google show richer results.
- Redirects: when products or URLs change, redirect old URLs to the best replacement so you keep their value.
2. Keyword mapping
Each important search should have one page that targets it:
- Category pages for searches like "men's kurta online Pakistan" or "leather wallets for men".
- Product pages for specific products and models.
- Blog posts for questions, such as "how to choose a lawn suit fabric".
- Homepage for your brand and main category.
Without a map, several pages compete for the same search and none ranks well.
3. Category pages: the biggest opportunity
Category pages often target the highest-value searches but are left as a grid of products. Add a short introduction, helpful buying information below the products, links to related categories and an FAQ. Write for buyers first.
4. Product pages
Unique descriptions (not copied from the supplier), full specifications, sizing, delivery and returns information, real photos, and genuine reviews. Product pages that answer buyers' questions rank better and convert better.
5. Content that earns its place
A store blog works when each post answers a real question and links to the products that solve it. Mass-produced, thin or AI-spun posts do not help; Google's spam policies target scaled content made mainly to rank, and it can hold back the whole site. Fewer, better posts win.
6. Local SEO (for stores with a shop or office)
If customers can visit you, a complete Google Business Profile with the exact same name, address and phone number as your website, real photos and genuine reviews helps you appear in Maps and "near me" searches.
7. Links and mentions
Links from other trustworthy sites remain important. Good sources include suppliers and brands you stock, genuine press coverage, collaborations, local directories and industry associations. Avoid buying links or link packages; they are against Google's policies.
8. Measure the right things
Track in Search Console and analytics:
- impressions and clicks for your target searches
- indexed pages versus pages you want indexed
- organic sessions to category and product pages
- revenue from organic traffic
Rankings for a few vanity keywords matter less than growing organic revenue.
How long SEO takes
For an established store with good products, improvements can show within a few months. New stores and competitive categories take longer. Anyone promising "#1 on Google in two weeks" is not being honest.
How to choose an SEO provider in Lahore
Ask:
- Can you show Search Console data (not just rank screenshots) from stores you have worked on, with the owner's permission?
- What will you do in the first month, specifically?
- Do you build links? How? (Paid link packages are a red flag.)
- Who writes the content, and will it be checked for accuracy?
- How will you report, and which numbers will you use?
