Selling Sialkot Surgical Instruments and Sports Goods on Amazon US and UK (FBA, 3PL and Compliance)
By Shaheer Khan, founder of Markify Ecommerce
Sialkot exports surgical and dental instruments, beauty tools, footballs, boxing and martial-arts gear, gloves and leather goods to buyers all over the world. Most of that trade is business-to-business: a foreign brand orders in bulk, puts its own name on the product, and sells it at retail.
Selling directly on Amazon under your own brand lets a manufacturer keep more of the retail price. It also means taking on work the foreign buyer used to do: branding, compliance, listings, advertising, customer service and stock planning. This guide walks through what that involves.
Step 1: Pick the right first products
Not everything you make is a good first Amazon product. Start with items that are:
- Simple to comply with. Manicure and pedicure tools, grooming scissors, tweezers and general sports accessories are much easier than products that make medical claims.
- Light and compact. Amazon FBA fees and freight costs are driven by size and weight. A set of tweezers ships far more cheaply per unit than a punching bag.
- Already proven. Look at Amazon search results for the product. If several sellers are selling well at a price that leaves you a margin, there is demand. Our product research criteria explain how to judge this.
- Ones you can improve. Better steel, a better case, a better size range or clearer instructions give buyers a reason to choose you.
Step 2: Understand compliance before you list
Compliance is where manufacturers most often get stuck. Requirements depend on exactly what the product is and what you claim it does, so treat this section as a starting checklist and confirm with the regulator or a compliance consultant.
Surgical, dental and medical instruments (US). Products intended for medical use are regulated by the US FDA as medical devices. Most manufacturers and importers must register their establishment with the FDA and list their devices. Many basic surgical instruments are Class I and exempt from 510(k) premarket notification, but not all are, so check the product classification in the FDA database. Amazon may also ask for documents before letting you list in some medical categories.
Medical instruments (UK). Medical devices sold in Great Britain need UKCA or CE marking under the applicable rules and registration with the MHRA, usually through a UK Responsible Person if you are based outside the UK.
Beauty and grooming tools. Manicure sets and scissors sold for personal grooming are generally not medical devices, as long as you do not make medical claims in the listing. Wording matters: "surgical grade stainless steel" describes the material; "for treating ingrown toenails" can be a medical claim.
Sports goods. Footballs, gloves and protective gear may need to meet safety standards, especially products for children or protective equipment. Amazon may request test reports for some categories.
Product safety and labelling. Both markets require correct country-of-origin marking ("Made in Pakistan"), and the UK and EU require a responsible economic operator for many products. Keep test reports and material certificates ready, because Amazon can ask for them at any time.
Step 3: Register your trademark and enrol in Brand Registry
Selling under your own brand on Amazon really starts with a trademark.
- Apply in each market you sell in: the USPTO for the US and the UKIPO for the UK.
- Amazon Brand Registry accepts registered trademarks and, in many marketplaces, pending applications. Amazon's IP Accelerator can connect you with vetted law firms.
- Brand Registry gives you A+ Content, Sponsored Brands ads, a Brand Store and better tools to report sellers who copy your listings. For manufacturers whose designs are widely copied, that protection is a major reason to register.
Step 4: Set up the selling entity and payouts
Pakistani businesses can register on Amazon directly. Many exporters still choose a US LLC or UK Ltd company for easier banking, tax handling and payment access. Our guides cover the choice:

- How Pakistani sellers receive marketplace payouts
Remember the export side too. Bringing marketplace earnings back to Pakistan through proper banking channels keeps your export records clean with your bank and the State Bank of Pakistan.
Step 5: Ship to Amazon FBA
Most manufacturers sell through Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA): you ship cartons to Amazon's warehouses and Amazon handles delivery and returns.
- Use a freight forwarder experienced with Amazon deliveries. Sea freight from Karachi is cheaper; air freight from Sialkot or Lahore is faster for small first shipments.
- In the US you need an importer of record and a customs bond. Many forwarders provide both.
- Label every unit with its FNSKU barcode and every carton with Amazon's shipment labels before it leaves Pakistan. Relabelling in the US is expensive.
- Follow Amazon's packaging rules: sharp instruments must be safely packed and some products need poly bags or suffocation warnings.
- Send a small first shipment to test demand, then scale.
Using a US 3PL for surgical instruments
Many instrument makers do not send everything straight to FBA. They ship one larger sea freight consignment to a US third-party logistics (3PL) warehouse, then send smaller replenishments to Amazon from there. The same stock can also fill Walmart, Shopify and wholesale orders. Amazon's inventory limits and storage fees make this attractive once you sell more than a few products.
Points to check when choosing a 3PL for surgical or dental instruments:
- Your FDA obligations do not move to the 3PL. The warehouse stores and ships; your establishment registration, device listing and labelling must already be in order. FDA can hold imported devices at the port if the entry data does not match a registered establishment and listed device, so give your customs broker the registration and listing numbers before the goods sail.
- Lot or batch tracking. Choose a 3PL whose system records lot numbers on receipt and on every outbound order, so you can trace and pull a batch quickly if there is a complaint or a recall.
- Sterile versus non-sterile stock. Sterile packed instruments need intact packaging and, where printed, expiry date control (first-expiry, first-out picking). Non-sterile stainless instruments need dry storage and sealed packs to avoid marks and corrosion in humid warehouses.
- Safe packing of sharps. Ask how the 3PL packs scalpels, scissors and needle holders for parcel delivery and for FBA, and whether they apply Amazon labels and poly bags for you.
- B2B and B2C in one place. If you also sell to US distributors or clinics, check that the 3PL handles pallet and carton orders as well as single parcels.
Our guide to choosing a US 3PL explains 3PL fees, warehouse location and the questions to ask before you sign, and cross-border ecommerce logistics compares air and sea freight from Pakistan.
Step 6: Price for the whole cost, not the factory price
A common error is pricing from the factory cost alone. Your landed cost per unit should include:
- manufacturing cost and packaging
- freight, customs duty and forwarder fees
- Amazon referral fee (a percentage of the sale price, depending on category)
- FBA fulfilment fee and monthly storage fees
- advertising, which is often a meaningful share of sales in the first months
- returns and refunds
Use the Amazon FBA fees and profit guide to build your numbers before you set a price.
Step 7: Launch with listings and ads that sell
Sialkot products often compete on quality that a buyer cannot feel through a screen. The listing has to show it:
- close-up photos of the steel, stitching or finish, and the product in use
- clear size charts for gloves and gear
- material and finish details in the bullets
- A+ Content explaining your manufacturing story, which is a real advantage for a factory brand
Then use Sponsored Products to get the first sales and reviews. See our listing optimisation checklist and Amazon PPC basics.
Keep your B2B business running
Many manufacturers run both: bulk orders for existing buyers and their own brand on Amazon. Be careful not to compete directly with your buyers' products, and check your existing contracts for exclusivity clauses before you list similar items under your own name.
Frequently asked questions
Can I sell surgical instruments on Amazon from Pakistan?
Yes, if the products meet the regulatory requirements of the marketplace country and Amazon approves you for the category where needed. Start with products that do not make medical claims if you want a faster launch.
Do I need a US company?
Not always. Amazon accepts Pakistani businesses. A US LLC or UK Ltd can make banking and payments easier, but it adds cost and tax filing.
Can Markify manage this for us?
Yes. Our Amazon account management service covers listings, Brand Registry, advertising and FBA shipment planning, and our team in Lahore works with manufacturers across Punjab.
